Yelena joined MSE in 2013 after litigating for five years at Ropes & Gray. There, she represented domestic and foreign clients in litigations, arbitrations, and mediations, including commercial, contractual, product liability, and bankruptcy matters. Yelena also defended corporations and individuals in SEC, congressional, Justice Department, and state investigations arising under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, federal securities laws, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, and consumer-protection laws.

In 2012, Yelena was specially selected by Ropes & Gray, through its Partners in Prosecution program, to serve in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney. In that role, she prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases, drafted and argued motions, and negotiated plea agreements.

At MSE, Yelena has conducted depositions and witness interviews, drafted briefs and mediation statements, and worked closely with expert witnesses. In the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and in a mediation, Yelena second-chaired the defense of a large national firm against a muti-million-dollar malpractice claim. Yelena also assisted in defending an AmLaw 100 firm against claims for malpractice and breach of fiduciary duty.

In the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Yelena successfully represented a trademark licensee in obtaining a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against the trademark owner for breach of the licensee’s right of first refusal.

In the New York State Court, Yelena has served as lead counsel to an annuity beneficiary in a dispute with a prior beneficiary.

Yelena graduated with honors from Emory University School of Law in 2008, where she was a quarterfinalist in the securities-law moot-court competition. Yelena earned her bachelor’s degree in economics in 2004 from Cornell University.
